My Edge Project

My project was to learn professional screen printing techniques used in the decorative apparel industry. I researched the process and techniques before entering an internship with a local Cedar City screen print shop known as Logomaniax. During this internship I learned hands-on techniques and processes used in the professional industry. This gave me lots of experience in the professional screen print industry, making me better prepared to enter the work force.

Inspiration

The inspiration for this project originated from the first time I ever screen printed back in high school. Since then I haven’t screen printed until I took the Silkscreen and Relief printing class here on campus. This re-sparked my interest and decided I wanted to learn more about the process in the professional world. I am interested in going into the screen printing field, and this gave me the professional experience for my future plans.

Overcoming Challenges

The challenges that came during my project first came when I realized that college isn’t very cheap, and I had no money to fund the shirts and materials needed for the process. Luckily, I was fortunate to find an internship locally that offered me more professional experience with no cost.

Goals and Outcomes

The main goal of this project was to design and print a limited-edition series of three t-shirt designs on a 4-color printing press.

My project benefitted me better than teaching myself because I was given the opportunity to receive hands on professional experience. This gave me a better education and experience that I can use when looking for future employment. My project gave me the essential foundation and now I am able to experiment and hone my craft.
